  • Progress of Pulp Disease

The pulp can become irreversibly damaged by bacteria, which gets in because of decay, very deep restorations, fractures, trauma or periodontal disease. The bacterial infection can spread throughout the root canal and into the jaw, where an abscess may form. If the problem isn’t detected and treated, it can eventually result in great discomfort.

In order to preserve a tooth in which this type of infection has occurred, it is necessary to remove the diseased pulp tissue. The procedure is known as non-surgical root canal therapy.
